Esophageal Dilation is the medical procedure of stretching or widening the narrowed sections of the Esophagus.
The esophagus transfer foods from the mouth to the stomach. Dilation will be a good option in the cases of an esophageal stricture (narrowing of the esophagus when there is a buildup of scar tissues) and the most common source behind esophageal damage is “Acid reflux”, which is also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD.
Symptoms -Doctors can use various techniques for the dilation process, but mostly, a scope is used to stretch the narrowed part which makes it easier to swallow food and liquid.
Your doctor might perform this dilation procedure as part of a sedated endoscopy.
