What is Enteral Stenting?
It is a non-surgical procedure. In this process, an Enteral stent which is a hollow tube is inserted in the digestive tract to create support if you have obstructed esophagus, stomach, or small intestine or colon.
Purpose of Enteral Stenting.
Your doctor will be suggesting an Enteral Stent specifically for two reasons-
- Palliative care- In treating fatal obstructions, colorectal diseases, or esophageal cancer.
- Preoperative decompression- In treating blockage in the colon. Many times obstructed colons require immediate
- surgery but a stent could decrease the risks for complications and prevent the need for colostomy.
