What Is Hepatitis B & C?

Hepatitis B and C are viral infections that affect the liver, transmitted through contact with infected blood or bodily fluids. Chronic infections with hepatitis B and C can lead to serious liver complications, including cirrhosis, liver failure, and an increased risk of liver cancer.

What Causes Hepatitis B & C?

  • Coming in contact with infected blood, semen, or other bodily fluids.
  • Unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected person.
  • Sharing of needles or other drug
  • From an infected mother to her baby during childbirth.
  • Occupational exposure to blood or bodily fluids.

What Are the Symptoms of Hepatitis B & C?

  • Hepatitis B (HBV):
    • Flu-like symptoms such as fatigue, fever, and muscle aches.
    • Loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting.
    • Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes).
    • Dark urine and pale-colored stools.
    • Abdominal pain or discomfort.
  • Hepatitis C (HCV):
    • Flu-like symptoms similar to hepatitis B.
    • Fatigue, weakness, and muscle soreness.
    • Loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting.
    • Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) is less common than in hepatitis B.
    • Abdominal pain or discomfort may occur.
