Polypectomy

Endoscopic Intervention

What Is Polypectomy?

Polypectomy is a colonoscopic procedure performed to remove the presence of colon polyps. It is a laparoscopic treatment and helps in the complete removal of precancerous polyps.

Why is Polypectomy Performed?

  • Effective Removal of Polyps: Effective treatment plans to remove polyps, which are abnormal growths of tissue that can develop in various parts of the body, including the colon, stomach, or uterus.
  • Prevention of Cancer: Generally, Polyps have the potential to develop into cancer over time, particularly in the colon. This helps prevent the progression of benign polyps into cancerous tumors, reducing the risk of colorectal cancer.
  • Diagnosis and Treatment: Polypectomy allows for the examination of polyps under a microscope to determine their nature and whether they are malignant.

Advantages of Polypectomy

  • Non-Invasive procedure: Performed using endoscopic techniques which involve small incisions or no incisions at all, resulting in faster recovery times, reduced complications, and shorter hospital stays compared to traditional surgery.
  • Offering Fast Relief from Discomfort: Polypectomy can reduce discomfort associated with polyps, such as rectal bleeding, abdominal pain, or changes in bowel habits, and helps in improving the quality of life.
