Piles Banding

Endoscopic Intervention

What Is Piles Banding?

Piles banding, also known as rubber band ligation, is a laparoscopic procedure for treating internal hemorrhoids. It involves placing a small rubber band around the base of the hemorrhoid to cut off its blood supply, leading to shrinkage and eventual resolution of symptoms.

Why is Piles Banding Performed?

  • Treatment of Hemorrhoids: Pile banding is primarily performed to treat hemorrhoids, which are swollen and inflamed veins in the rectum or anus.
  • Easing the Symptoms: This procedure is used to alleviate symptoms associated with hemorrhoids, including pain, itching, bleeding, swelling, and discomfort during bowel movements.
  • Non-Surgical Approach: It is a non-surgical treatment option for hemorrhoids, making it suitable for patients who prefer conservative management or are not candidates for surgical interventions.
  • Effective for Internal Hemorrhoids: It is particularly effective for treating internal hemorrhoids, which develop inside the rectum and may protrude through the anus during bowel movements.
  • Long-Term Results: In many cases, pile banding provides long-term relief from hemorrhoid symptoms, reducing the likelihood of recurrence and the need for additional treatments.

Advantage of Piles Banding

  • Quick and relatively painless: The procedure is typically performed in a clinic or outpatient setting and takes only a few minutes to complete, with minimal discomfort for most patients.
  • Minimal recovery time: Since it is a minimally invasive procedure, patients can usually resume normal activities immediately after the procedure, with little to no downtime required.
  • Fewer complications: Compared to traditional surgical treatments for hemorrhoids, piles banding carries a lower risk of complications such as bleeding, infection, or incontinence.
  • Repeatable Procedure: In cases where multiple hemorrhoids are present or if the initial treatment is not fully effective, piles banding can be repeated as needed to achieve optimal results, offering a flexible and customizable approach to treatment.
  • High Success Rate: The procedure has a high success rate in treating hemorrhoids, with many patients experiencing symptom relief and improvement in their quality of life.
